Counselling: Anger Management

Authentic anger as a useful emotion which tells us when something is wrong. It tells us when someone has crossed a personal boundary and prompts us to act assertively.

Unauthentic anger, resentment and aggression on the other hand can ruin our health, relationships and mental wellbeing.  People with unauthentic anger go straight past assertiveness into rage and violence.

Rage and violence is more about the need to have power and control of others. It goes far beyond the need to set reasonable boundaries.  Nothing gets solved when anger is used this way and some people can become addicted to rage and uproar when they find that they can intimidate others into conforming to their ideas and wishes. This then gives them a false sense of importance and power.

Geoff and Kellene offer anger management work which addresses ‘doing your anger well’ without impacting one the needs and rights of others. They teach assertive behaviour and fair fighting rules and a range of other strategies as alternatives to “anger rackets including rage and passive-aggressive behaviours.
